Dr. John Felton has been a member of the Lord’s church for 54 years. He began his work in the Lord’s church as a teenager at the age of fourteen. After graduating from Freed-Hardeman University in 1978, he moved to Charleston, SC. During his stay in Charleston, he served as one of the teachers in the teachers’ training class, choral director, and Sunday school teacher in the young adult class at the Azalea Drive Church of Christ. In 1984, he and his wife took a leave from Azalea Drive to assist with the work at the Berkeley Church of Christ in Moncks Corner, SC. During his stay at the Berkeley Church of Christ, Dr. Felton served as a youth director, song leader, and educational director. He returned to the Azalea Drive Church of Christ in 1991 and served in various capacities before moving back to Augusta, GA in 1994. Dr. Felton has been preaching the gospel since 1995. He preached under the tutelage of various ministers before returning to school to continue his education in 2005. He has conducted teachers’ workshops in the states of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Dr. Felton worked in the Richmond County Public School System and retired in 2015. While working for the school system, he worked as a classroom teacher, Title I Teacher Support Specialist, Assistant Principal, and a principal. Prior to becoming the Senior Minister for the Westside Church of Christ in New Ellenton, SC, he served as one of the elders at the Grace Street Church of Christ in Augusta, GA for 15 years. Dr. Felton is a native of Augusta, GA. He holds an associate degree in bible from Southwestern Christian College, a bachelor’s degree in education and biblical studies from Freed-Hardeman University, a Master of Arts degree in curriculum and instruction from Lesley University, a specialist degree in school leadership from Cambridge College, and a Doctorate degree in school leadership and administration from South Carolina State University. Dr. Felton and his wife, Cynthia, have been married for 43 years. They are the proud parents of two adult children and seven grandchildren.
